Low Back Pain Physical Therapy

If you have recurring Back Pain, here at Fit For Action we can help you overcome it!
Chiropractic is a health care profession dedicated to the non-surgical treatment of disorders of the nervous system and/or musculoskeletal system. Generally, chiropractors maintain a unique focus on spinal manipulation and treatment of surrounding structures.

Many studies have concluded that manual therapies commonly used by chiropractors are generally effective for the treatment of lower back pain, as well as for treatment of lumbar herniated disc for radiculopathy and neck pain, among other conditions.

In fact, when patients with non-specific chronic low back pain are treated by chiropractors, the long-term outcome is enhanced by obtaining maintenance spinal manipulation after the initial intensive manipulative therapy

The lower back is an intricate structure of interconnected and overlapping elements:

  • Tendons and muscles and other soft tissues
  • Highly sensitive nerves and nerve roots that travel from the lower back down into the legs and feet
  • Small and complex joints
  • Spinal discs with their gelatinous inner cores.

Neck Pain Therapy

Many of us suffer from all sorts of neck pains which may include but not limited to neck sprains and strains, degenerative problems, and or bulging or herniated discs.

Neck sprains (ligament damage) and strains (muscle damage) are commonly caused by bad sleeping habits, sitting sitting on the computer at work for long hours, using electronic devices such as games and or phones, everyday stress, and or after a car accident.

Degenerative problems may include arthritis from age and or from an old injury like a sports injury as a child, past car accident, or prior slip and fall. This can be very painful and may feel achy daily and sometimes worse in the morning times and or at night.

Bulging and Herniated Discs

Bulging and herniated discs are a very common injury that come into Fit For Action. This may be caused by an auto accident, a slip and fall, a sports injury, or by activities of daily living. There are other causes of discs problems but these are the most common.

As a disc condition gets worse or progresses (in the low back), some people may develop pain down into the leg(s) with symptoms that may include numbness, tingling, achy, burning, or weakness. If the disc condition is in the neck, some people may develop pain down the shoulders and arm(s) with symptoms that may include numbness, tingling, achy, burning, or weakness. Some people call this a pinched or irritated nerve.

At Fit for Action, we have the state-of-the-art non-surgical computerized therapy called Spinal Decompression Therapy (DRX 9000) which has helped many of our patients with disc problems without the use of drugs or surgery.

Headache Causes

Headaches can be caused by a number of reasons, and at Fit For Action we are able to help you!
If you have a headache, you’re not alone. Nine out of ten Americans suffer from headaches. Some are occasional, some frequent, some are dull and throbbing, and some cause debilitating pain and nausea.

What do you do when you suffer from a pounding headache? Do you grit your teeth and carry on? Lie down? Pop a pill and hope the pain goes away? There is a better alternative.

Research shows that spinal manipulation – the primary form of care provided by doctors of chiropractic – may be an effective treatment option for tension headaches and headaches that originate in the neck.

A report released in 2001 by researchers at the Duke University Evidence-Based Practice Center in Durham, NC, found that spinal manipulation resulted in almost immediate improvement for those headaches that originate in the neck, and had significantly fewer side effects and longer-lasting relief of tension-type headache than a commonly prescribed medication.

Also, a 1995 study in the Journal of Manipulative and Physiological Therapeutics found that spinal manipulative therapy is an effective treatment for tension headaches and that those who ceased chiropractic treatment after four weeks experienced a sustained therapeutic benefit in contrast with those patients who received a commonly prescribed medication.

Numbness and Tingling Causes

Although it might sound like nothing to worry about, Tingling and Numbness can be signs of a more serious illness. At Fit For Action, we can help determine what it is.

Numbness and tingling are abnormal sensations that can occur anywhere in your body, but are often felt in your fingers, hands, feet, arms, or legs.

There are many possible causes:

  • Remaining in the same seated or standing position for a long time
  • Injury to a nerve — for example, a neck injury may cause you to feel numbness anywhere along your arm or hand, while a low back injury can cause numbness or tingling down the back of your leg
  • Pressure on the spinal nerves, such as from a herniated disk
  • Pressure on peripheral nerves from enlarged blood vessels, tumors, scar tissue, or infection
  • Shingles or herpes zoster infection

Lack of blood supply to an area — for example, cholesterol (plaque) build up from atherosclerosis in the legs can cause pain, numbness, and tingling while walking (this is called vascular claudication); frostbite can also reduce blood supply and lead to numbness

Hip Pain Chiropractic

A common affliction people experience with age is Hip Pain, and here at Fit For Action we can help you with that!

Our hips serve innumerable functions for our body; they keep us upright, allow us to bear weight, walk smoothly, run, jump, kick, play. Since the hips are engaged in nearly every way we move, pain in this area can have debilitating consequences for patients. Although hip pain is frequently the result of osteoarthritis or injury, it can also be a sign of other health conditions. A doctor of chiropractic can help you identify the source of your hip pain and develop a tailored treatment plan for your symptoms.

Hip pain can derive from the structures within the hip joint or from the structures and ligaments surrounding the joint. Within the joint itself, there is limited space for the femoral head to move in the socket of the acetabulum. If an injury or illness triggers inflammation, this space can become easily filled with fluid or blood, causing pain. Inflammation of the sac outside of the hip, the bursitis, can also be the source of pain. Bursitis is often the result of minor trauma or overuse.

Chiropractic treatment will help you avoid unnecessary pain and disability and slow the progression of the disease. Hence, delay possible surgery or maybe even avoid the need for it.

Apart from examining the hip joint, it is important to include an examination of the back, knee, ankle and foot. As all these areas can influence the hip problem.

Muscle Pain Treatment

To relieve Muscle Pain, at Fit For Action we have an expert staff ready to help you anytime!

Muscle strains are also known as a pulled muscle. When the muscles in the lower back are strained or torn, the area around the muscles can become inflamed. With inflammation, the muscles can spasm leading to severe low back pain and difficulty moving. Lower back pain from a muscle strain occurs most frequently after lifting a heavy object, lifting while twisting, or a sudden movement or fall. The pain is usually localized, meaning it doesn’t radiate to the leg. The area may be sore to the touch, the patient usually feels better when resting.

Joint or Muscle pain can be excruciating and debilitating. Whether the pain is in your neck or foot, it can make day to day life difficult. Things we do that we take for granted become a struggle.

If you are currently experiencing pain in a joint or muscle that you want to be rid of then chiropractic treatment maybe the answer to your problem.

While there is a common misconception that “chiropractors only treat backs”, our chiropractors diagnose and treat other joint and muscle problems.

Carpal Tunnel Treatment

A common affliction in the modern era, Fit For Action can help you out with Carpal Tunnel Syndrome!

Carpal tunnel syndrome (CTS) is the most expensive of all work-related injuries. Over his or her lifetime, a carpal tunnel patient loses about $30,000 in medical bills and time absent from work.

CTS typically occurs in adults, with women 3 times more likely to develop it than men. The dominant hand is usually affected first, and the pain is typically severe. CTS is especially common in assembly-line workers in manufacturing, sewing, finishing, cleaning, meatpacking, and similar industries. Contrary to the conventional wisdom, according to recent research, people who perform data entry at a computer (up to 7 hours a day) are not at increased risk of developing CTS.

CTS is a problem of the median nerve, which runs from the forearm into the hand. CTS occurs when the median nerve gets compressed in the carpal tunnel—a narrow tunnel at the wrist—made up of bones and soft tissues, such as nerves, tendons, ligaments, and blood vessels.

The compression may result in pain, weakness, and/or numbness in the hand and wrist, which radiates up into the forearm. CTS is the most common of the “entrapment neuropathies”—compression or trauma of the body’s nerves in the hands or feet.

Chiropractic Treatment for Arthritis

At Fit For Action we can help you with a specific approach to arthritic pain, and can provide relief easily!

The word “arthritis” means “joint inflammation” and is often used in reference to rheumatic diseases. Rheumatic diseases include more than 100 conditions, including gout, fibromyalgia, osteoarthritis, psoriatic arthritis, and many more. Rheumatoid arthritis is also a rheumatic diseases, affecting about 1 percent of the U.S. population (about 2.1 million people.)1 Although rheumatoid arthritis often begins in middle age and is more frequent in the older generation, it can also start at a young age.

Rheumatoid arthritis causes pain, swelling, stiffness, and loss of function in the joints. Several features distinguish it from other kinds of arthritis:

  • Tender, warm, and swollen joints.
  • Fatigue, sometimes fever, and a general sense of not feeling well.
  • Pain and stiffness lasts for more than 30 minutes after a long rest.
  • The condition is symmetrical. If one hand is affected, the other one is, too.

The wrist and finger joints closest to the hand are most frequently affected. Neck, shoulder, elbow, hip, knee, ankle, and feet joints can also be affected.

In a lot of cases, neck pain is accompanied by dizziness, nausea, vertigo, numbness and pain in the upper limbs. Many of these injuries do not require surgery, but major fractures can result long-term problems unless being treated timely and efficiently. If you experience any of the previous symptoms, have pain for more than a few days or if the pain is strong, please make an appointment with Dr. Diego as soon as possible, we assure you will receive appropriate rehabilitation to relieve the stiffness every time you try to do something.
